"Redd, the RX-7 that could" (tacomatuesdays)

My parents have been adamant in conveying that they will not go halfsies on a miata with me. Anybody have access to any Zoloft? So now I'm looking at an '07 Accord coupe with a four banger. The only upside to this is that the Accord is still much nicer than my previous box on wheels, AND, it has a 5 speed manual.

I think you should wait for what you want. Youll just be disaappointed and stilk want it.

What do they want to go halfsies on? Or is there a requirement list and not a specific car?

Damn! How cheap is that Accord that it (apparently) is half the price of a Miata?

How bad to you need a car? If you need one badly, get the 5spd Accord. It's a stick, fun will be had. It's better than a auto.
If you can wait, save up and get the miata.

Get something you want. You'll spend a lot of time with it.

Are you planning to daily drive this car? If so, you'll thank yourself for not choosing a Miata.

Nope, I can't wait, my other car bit the dust, and I need something by next weekend.

I need one very badly, I really need a car by next weekend. And I think as long as I have a manual it won't be too bad.

They'll go halvsies on anything reliable, not super small, fuel efficient and around $6500-8500

What about finding and 07 or 08 Forrester sport? Fun...super reliable... and can be found for a good price.

IMO, you are correct. A car is better than no car. And a car that you can enjoy getting behind the wheel of is even better. Having a manual just makes the fun value and the drive all the more enjoyable. Plus, a miata could be in your future later on down the road.

Hmm. 8500. Mustang all day long. I hate to say that because there's so much fun to be had out there and a general bias towards jap/euro cars in the belief that they are the only ones fun, but just a few bolt on parts and that Mustang monster will carve corners and be fun.
What the parents don't know. The 94-04 model was the same size as the outgoing fox body, might weigh slightly more but is quite a bit stiffer in chassis. The secret here, is the 3.8 v-6...it has 195hp and just simple cheap second hand bolt ons will make it equal to the 5.0 engine from the fox body. S(super-six and Tom Morana engineering will hook you up. You have good power, great handling with a few things and you've hit that $8500 in the end.
Sure it wont be as refined as the miata overall, but it's not as small (parent's like that) and still decently economical (Parent's like that) and the v6 model is in their minds...not enough to kill you (insurance likes that too). you have a back seat for some friends to go somewhere and to put your stuff when you head off to school. (This is an important point for you...I went through that. I needed the space)
Good luck. Besides, the Roadkill guys say it's the best car for guys who have a limited budget and want some fun.
